With huge support from Greenwich Hospital Trust (the landlords) and the great support from locals and visitors to our market stall at Greenwich over the past 7 months has we were able to move from the stall into a nice retail unit at the market and open a gallery-shop where we currently & proudly display Hartwig’s work and associated items.

Now we also have the space to display the beautiful canvas reproductions of Hartwig’s work including a brand new London image he has just finished. The canvases are proving to be really popular indeed!

Since September last year we present Hartwig Braun’s incredible artwork in the inspiring and charming surroundings of Greenwich market. We think that its lively and creative atmosphere is the perfect place for us and we would be happy to welcome you there. As well as a selection of prints and posters of his hand drawn pictures you’ll find a terrific range of other products, from colourful stationary to stimulating puzzles. They all make great presents for someone special or a lovely treat for yourself.

And that’s not all – you may even be lucky to meet the artist himself!

There is something for everyone at our stall!

For Arty Globe this is going to be a very exiting and busy year and we’d like to use this space to keep you up-to-date with what’s going on.
So far, our ever so talented artist Hartwig Braun has attracted the attention of a number of well-known London sights and is working hard on some fantastic bespoke projects for their marketing and merchandising. If things go well – and we are confident they will – you may soon be able to spot Hartwig’s unique creative style on your sightseeing trips through our city!

Wentworth puzzles specialize in producing high-quality, individually cut wooden puzzles and have been selling their products in 38 countries for more than 15 years.

These puzzles are known worldwide for their difficulty level as the pieces are cut in different and unusual shapes. Even the border pieces are often cut in weird and wonderful angles, something which makes the jigsaw puzzles a real challenge to piece together.

Joe makes a very good point about an Artist’s style. I agree that it is important for an artist to develop a certain “style” (“find his voice” in a way) but I don’t think it means that he should avoid using other mediums and variations to expand and enrich it. I believe that these “experiments” can help the artist to develop his style and keep it constantly “fresh”.

I watched Hartwig’s style develop and change over the past few years. On the rare occasions when I am allowed to voice my opinion (artist’s are such delicate flowers sometimes!) I do encourage him to try different variations, subjects and mediums.

For example:

• The London image was his first panoramic view of a city, and it was drawn without any initial planning of underlying structure or layout – the city just “grew” on paper as chaotic clusters of buildings. London lent itself beautifully to such an approach due to its lower buildings and chaotic structure (it is after all a cluster of towns & villages which were joined together over the years to create this huge Metropolis).
• On the other hand, the New York image, which he did next, presented him with a big dilemma as it is a structured city with tall sky scrapers and therefore a more careful consideration had to be given to the underlying layout of the image and the buildings from the outset to enable him to draw the buildings in his fish-eyed style. He had to define the layout first as the basis from which each individual building “grew” up. The effect of these different starting points is very noticeable when you compare it with the London image.
• Also, Both London and New York images were hand drawn in slightly thicker black pens, which may at times prevented him from adding some finer details to the composition. But when he drew the Berlin image a few months later, he started experimenting with a thinner black pen and suddenly discovered his endless joy in adding even finer details to the artwork. If you watch carefully you will notice that the Berlin (and the full Paris) images have a lot finer details than the previous two.

These are just a few examples of the development of a “style” through experimentation with various mediums and other styles.

I think he has a great goal – I totally support it. There is so much creativity out there and so many talented artists, but from what I have seen so far it is so difficult to break through and get noticed.

Some people wanted to know if these images are available on prints & posters. The answer is – yes!

They are available to at various web shops and traditional retailers worldwide. A simple search on Google for “Arty Globe” should yield a good list of options.

When Hartwig did the image originally, he drew it without the towers, as he felt that otherwise it would not reflect the city as it is today, and was a bit concerned about the possible sensitivity of including them on the image.

However, on a visit to New York a bit later, we both got the impression that the Towers are very much still a living memory in the hearts and minds of people in the city, and saw that they appear on everything from prints to souvenirs. We then both realized that including the Towers on the image could actually help to commemorate their memory.

So far we had very positive responses to this decision, as most people felt the same. Some people even go on to mention that having the towers in the image adds even more character and personality to the illustration.

We chose to respect all feeling, and therefore had both images published on prints and posters, so people can choose which one is the image they feel more comfortable with.

Thank you to everyone for the great feedback about the artwork over the last few days – I am really glad for Hartwig as above all, the artist’s best currency is the audience’s appreciation!

Take the London Eye & Westminster for example – I am sure you have seen many great pictures of both in different types of weathers and from many different angles. You probably saw the beautiful paintings and illustrations of these 2 iconic London monuments. Now look at Hartwig’s version – can you see what I mean? Look at the way all the building grow to different directions – yet it all makes sense in a way.

I adore his colour choices. He spends hours choosing the right hues for every little spot, but it is all worth it at the end – no?
